Plain and Dry please

Recently my beloved wife came up with the idea that I need my fiber in our diets. Last night I think she asked if I wanted flaxseed on our chicken or something to that effect ... don't ask me for details because I think I overdosed on flaxseed. Overall I tend to be a selective eater and I usually won't eat things I don't want no matter how hard I am pushed to eat it. If you are what you eat then I should be a flaxseed any day now.

The other day we were at lunch and I placed chips in my sandwich and took a bite. My co-worker looked at me with a what planet are you from look. My thought is you put some pretty nasty veggies in your sandwich so what standard are you judging me by ... ha! I thought I would share my method to eating sandwichs with you so you can learn to eat new things such I am doing. Follow the steps below and you can be just like me.

1. Order your sandwich, or prepare yourself, and lay it flat. See picture below.

2. Take your bag of chips and place chips inside the sandwich (see pictures below for example). You have just added a bit of spice to your life and your friends will be impressed by your good measure of intellegence. Enjoy!

Imaging

If you are the person in your IT department that is responsible for deploying new desktops and laptops then I highly suggest you get in to imaging. If you are using imaging software currently then great but if you are not then I suggest you get involved and start learning it. For those unaware of what imaging is, it is a method to take a single installed copy of an operating system and copy it to a location in which it can be deployed later to other computers. In the image you can install Microsoft Office, Adobe acrobat, WinZip, Citrix or whatever you think your end users will need. It can totally make you and your fellow technicians more productive. We currently use Altiris Deployment Console 6.9 SP3. I have also used Symantec Ghost in the past. Microsoft has also come a long ways in supplying free resources to do imaging for companies that maybe can't afford to spend big bucks on imaging software.

We were asked to come up with 18 laptops to switch out older laptops/desktops (see photo). We setup the laptops on a single table/desk and 16 - 20 minutes later the image was done installing on all the laptops. So if we did not have imaging then we would have to go to each laptop, install the operating system, download and install drivers, join it to the domain, install software needed such as MS office, Adobe and so on. That process would have taken nearly forever. Yet 20 minutes later 18 laptops are finished and ready to be deployed, or near so.

Starting point

The purpose of my blog is to share some of the issues and successes that I have come across in the technical realm. I currently operate as a Support Services Technician III for a mid-sized energy company in downtown Houston. I have a very "special" wife and 3 amazing little girls. Life would be dull and boring without them. I will post pictures of them from time to time as well.
